Let me introduce myself

Hello! My name is April Twenhafel and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. I’d like to share a little bit of my story so you can have a sense of who I am. After going to college to become a social worker, I spent 4 years in community work. I helped many people from all walks of life and backgrounds who shared one thing in common - pain. Although I loved helping them in the midst of their crisis, I could see there were deeper things they needed to work through and often referred them to licensed professionals. It was from my time in that field I realized I wanted to journey with people through the healing process. I went to graduate school to become a Marriage and Family Therapist. I’ve been in this field for 14 years and absolutely love that this is my job.

Let’s talk therapy

Since you are exploring therapists, that tells me there is something going on in your life that is painful or interfering with you living life to the fullest. Perhaps you’ve tried therapy before. Maybe you’ve tried everything else . . . books, exercise, friends, or unhealthy ways of coping. This could even be your first time reaching out to anyone. Wherever you are in your journey, I’m glad you are open to therapy and seeking out the life you want and deserve. I believe in working together, you can achieve your goals and live your life more abundantly.

As my client, you will be given a warm, safe space to address the things in life that are weighing you down. It can be scary to meet a stranger and invite them into the sacred spaces of your heart and mind. I invite you to schedule a free phone consultation with me to get a feel of my personality and if we are a good fit to work together. Although I work with a variety of clinical issues, my specialities include:

  • Trauma and PTSD

  • Depression

  • Anxiety

  • Relational Issues

Testimonials

I met with April after a friend knew I was struggling with depression and anxiety and recommended her to me. Thank goodness I called and set up my first appointment a couple of years ago. April has helped me work through my life struggles and reassured me during times of self doubt. She’s accessible, professional, honest and kind. If you are looking for a therapist to talk to, start with April.

I’m so thankful to have found April as I know it can be incredibly hard to find a therapist who you can trust and connect with. April is fantastic at knowing what to say even when I don’t know how to express my feelings. She has helped become very articulate and confident in myself despite the anxiety I deal with. She has given me the tools I need to work through my struggles. Despite the fact that I am not religious, April still provides counseling that works very well for my anxiety. I enjoy every session I have with April and can confidently trust her to help me through any problems I have.

One of the best advices I received in my life from one of my friends was to meet with April. Everyone should have a good personal relationship with their therapist and everyone needs something a little bit different, but for me... April is exactly what I have needed to help navigate through many of life’s twists and turns.

I’m so thankful I stumbled upon April through a recommendation from a very well known faith-based counseling center. She had a rare opening in her schedule at just the time I needed to see someone. Seriously, she is that good! I instantly knew April was just what I needed; I felt instantly comfortable in such an uncomfortable time of my life. Navigating through my faith and my pain, April helped me to bring the two into harmony. She is a real person. She knew just how far I could go in each session. She lovingly nudged me when I needed it and always respected my boundaries and process. She was able to give me words to put to my experiences and relationships in my life. The work we did together built a foundation that has allowed me to maintain a healthy and balanced emotional life. I can see the difference and I’m so thankful I had her help. I believe she is truly a great therapist. I cannot imagine anyone not loving her!

Personal Life

I grew up in the Midwest and moved to Las Vegas in 2002. I spent three years there doing social work before pursuing my degree in California. Although I love my life in Cali, I seriously miss Fall in Illinois. I am now the person who needs a sweater if it is below 70 degrees. My husband and two kids keep me busy when I’m not working. Traveling is one of my favorite things to do and there is so much of this world I still want to see!
