Therapy FAQS
What can i expect the first session?
Your first session is all about connection and understanding. We'll take time to get to know each other, explore what brings you to therapy, and clarify the goals you hope to achieve. We'll also discuss the history behind the challenges you're facing, so we can begin to map out a path forward together.
This is also a space for you to ask any questions you may have about the therapy process. My goal is for you to leave that first session feeling heard, seen, and truly understood.
If we discover that we’re not the right fit, that’s okay—your care is what matters most. I’m connected to a trusted network of therapists and can help guide you toward someone who may be a better match.
Sessions are 50 minutes long, though extended sessions are available upon request.
What is a free phone consultation?
The 15 minute free phone consultation gives you an opportunity to ask any questions about my practice and myself that you may have. We also use this time to determine if we are a good fit and if I am the right therapist for you. If we are not are good fit, I am happy to refer to one of my colleagues.
Do you offer telehealth sessions?
Yes! I offer flexible options to meet your needs, including secure, HIPAA-compliant telehealth sessions as well as in-person appointments. We can choose the format that feels most comfortable and convenient for you.
Do you take insurance?
I am an out of network provider and do not directly take insurance. Most PPO plans allow you to see an out of network therapist. Call your insurance for verification. I will then provide you with a “Superbill” that provides all the information necessary you need for reimbursement. I’m happy to address any questions you may have on this process.
How many sessions will I need?
This varies for every client depending on what is bringing you in and the history of the issue. Sometimes a circumstantial issue can be resolved in 4-6 sessions whereas childhood trauma takes some time to work through. After we meet together, we have a better idea on what that process may look like.
Do you integrate your faith into therapy?
I work with clients from a wide range of ethnic, cultural, and religious backgrounds, meeting each person where they are based on their own values and beliefs. While I am a Christian, I only incorporate faith into therapy if it is something you want to include. I’m comfortable and experienced working with people of all faiths—as well as those who do not identify with any religion.
My focus is always on supporting you in addressing the challenges you bring to counseling, respecting your unique perspective and experience. If you have any questions or concerns about how faith might fit into our work together, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
What is your therapeutic approach?
My work is rooted in understanding how early childhood experiences and primary relationships shape our emotional development and the way we connect with others throughout our lives. This ongoing journey is guided by Attachment Theory and Object Relations Theory. I truly believe that healing happens when we gently explore the deeper roots of our struggles, rather than just putting a temporary fix on the surface.
When working with families, I take a collaborative approach. Together, we discover the patterns and perspectives that influence how your family relates to one another. By shining a light on these dynamics, we can create space for deeper connection, understanding, and lasting change.
Are you trained in emdr?
Yes. EMDR is an evidenced based therapy used for a variety of clinical issues and especially helpful in the treatment of trauma.
